10K Solid Yellow Gold Cameo Brooch Pendant- Goddess Artemis. Early Edwardian.
In Greek mythology, Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, wild animals, wilderness. She is famous for her coolness. All her nymphs followers took a vow to remain a virgin. She changed her nymph Callisto into a bear because she broke this vow...... However, this cameo let us see the other side of Artemis. She protects young women, girls, and children, and aids childbirth. The plump face depicted in this cameo shows her kindness. The carving itself is also skillful. A lot of details in her hair. This piece can be circa into early 20 century, probably 1910-1920’s. Condition: There is a crack line showed on the left side edge (right behind her back hair), but it was carefully fixed. The cameo is set into the bezel safely. The picture enlarges the crack area and the defected frame, but you barely see it when you look at in person. A fair vintage condition. Measures: It measures about 1 3/8 by 1 1/16 inches (35 mm x 27 mm). Materials: Pink Coral Conch Shell. Setting: 10K Yellow solid Gold, with a solid bail and a pin. So it can be worn as pendant and a brooch. A mark of “10K” on the clasp. Weight: Total weight is 9.23 grams (5.94 dwt)
