Scene of 2 Vestals - Roman Virgin Goddess of hearts, home & family making sacrifices. Vesta’s presence is symbolized by the sacred fire that burned at her hearth and temples. Her closest Greek equivalent is Hestia. It was from this that the Vestales were named the Vestal virgins. Vintage carved in Carnelian Shell set in Vermeil (gold over sterling silver marked “STER- LING”) good condition. Brooch total measurement is 2” by 2-3/8” or 51 mm. by 61 mm. Weight of this beauty is 17.3 grams.
