Most of the items in this collection are from the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th centuries, with some cameos from as early as the 18th century as well as a few modern pieces. The majority were produced in Italy and England, followed by pieces from the United States, France and Germany, and most were carved from Carnelian and Sardonyx shell as well as Mother of Pearl and coral. The collection also contains some hard stone cameos from agate, opal and bone.
